Hertelendy Kastély – First 5* Superior Castle Hotel in Hungary

The Hertelendy Kastely estate plays in a totally different league: it feels like a fairytale of past times. A wonderfully renovated castle of the former count Hertelendy is now THE place to go in Hungary for a relaxing hideaway and luxurious pampering. In midst of beautiful, untouched nature, about 50km from the Balaton-lake, far away from the everyday stress, this place is a real jewel. Its offering and state of service level is unparalleled.

The Hertelendy Castle was built around 1920 as a hunting lodge. A few years ago a Swiss investor happily invested about 20M euros into the complete renovation of the Hertelendy Castle and the beautiful area around it. Since then it became an insider tip for an elegant, fabulous, luxurious vacation destination. This estate is the only member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux hotel group in Hungary and in June 2011 it received  the 5* superior category as the first Hungarian hotel. Only the best materials have been used during the renovation. The exterior and interior have been appointed very tastefully and in absolute harmony with the original estate style of the Austro-Hungarian Empire era.

The hotel itself has 14 rooms and suites and so guests really feel like in a very familiar atmosphere. All guest rooms and suites are equipped with the air-conditioning, flat screen TVs, free internet connection, refreshment center and so on. The love of detail is present everywhere in the castle and every room has a very unique atmosphere.

Beside the beautifully appointed rooms and suites the Hertelendy Castle Hotel has much more to offer. The more than 300 hectare property has its own thermal spring that rises from a 1000m depth with 62 degree celsius. Besides a thermal bath guests at the Hertelendy Castle can enjoy St. Barth beauty and relaxation treatments, an external swimming pool and a unique thermal lake in the Finnish sauna.

Sportive activities will not come short either. The Castle has its own horse stable with about 30 horses. In case guests would like to enjoy a horse ride, it can certainly be arranged for. Hunters will also find this place appealing, as hunting trips can be organized as well as there are of course golf ranges and other opportunities for traditional and extreme sports. But if guests just would like to enjoy the silence and calmness, they can also do so in the Castle’s own fruit plantation, own herbs garden or in the neighboring forests.

And of course gastronomy at the Hertelendy Castle is certainly something that one  can only rave about. Guests will be spoilt with bio-honey out of own production, absolutely delicious creamy goat cheese, homemade jam and the list is just endless. The chefs at the Castle are some of the best in Hungary, so that your expectations will definitely be exceeded.

And if this was not already close to perfect than I would also like to mention that the Hertelendy Castle has its own helicopter-landing-place to make the arrival of foreign guests easier. On request guests can be picked up from Budapest airport in style and chauffeured to the Castle – with a Bentley.

For special occasions, such as weddings or strategic business meetings the entire property can be reserved and guests can enjoy a private stay with their invitees.

All in all – it sounds like a fairy tale, but this time it is for real!
